2014 Orlando VMUG User Conference

28 Feb 2014

This week the inaugural Orlando VMUG Conference was held at the Hilton Orlando Convention Center with over 300 attendees. This was an amazing event for the area's VMware Community with a ton of familiar faces and new friends.

The event kicked off with the keynote address by Chris McCain (VCDX #79) followed by a whole day of technical sessions by VMware and our Partners. Chris recently joined VMware as the Director of Technical Certification for Network and Security. Get ready for some packet kicking, mind-blowing education and certification in the future from this guy and his team.

I was lucky enough to present two very packed sessions at the conference and was fortunate enough to co-present with my friend and colleague Kyle Gleed, Senior Technical Marketing Architect.

VMware vSphere 5.5 Upgrade Practices: This session covered the planning, preparations and path to a successful upgrade from vSphere 4.0, 4.1, 5.0 and 5.1 to the latest 5.5 release of vSphere. Before you go all cowboy, take the time to plan out your upgrade, ensure your systems supported and ready, that your partner integrations are supported and that you follow these practices.

VMware vCenter Server 5.5 Technical Deep Dive: In this session, Kyle Gleed and I discussed the enhancements in vCenter Server 5.5: like SSO 5.5, 5.1 backwards compatibility, simple vs. custom installation and more.
